Our fundraising campaign to build an extension to our Scout Hut 2020

14th Hove actively engages and supports young people in their personal development, empowering them to make a positive contribution to society. We give them skills for life. We are also seen as an integral part of the community and actively engage with and support other local organisations and residents.

The existing scout hut was opened in 1991. It occupies a discreet location in the south-west corner of Vale Park, within hardstanding curtilage used for parking via access off St Andrews Road.

The Group has seen significant expansion during the last 5 years. It now has two Beaver colonies, two Cub packs and two Scout troops. In practice, over 190 young people in Hove and Portslade attend one of the Group meetings each week. There are 50 young people on the waiting list.

Therefore, more space is required. This would enable expansion to the main hall area, but primarily this would enable extension to the quartermasters’ store area. This area of the of the hut stores the Group camp equipment and other essential equipment. It is far too small to accommodate the existing equipment and materials to sustain the Group.

The Executive Committee has identified the small area of land behind the hut wherein a single storey extension could be added to the building with access for a trailer.

We therefore need to raise a significant amount of money to fund the building work and building materials. We have no idea how long it will take us to raise funds, but we have commenced our fundraising campaign in January 2020 with a number of grant applications, community fundraising initiatives, led by our young members, leaders, executive group and parents.
